Table Care

Each Dorsey Original is created to provide exceptional performance with minimal care.
Attention to a few basic points will help you protect your investment.

Dorsey Originals Care and Cleaning Tips
The type of finish on the wood, not the type of wood, determines how the custom wood furniture care and cleaning can be done and how to repair damage; so know what kind of finish it has.  Your finish is an epoxy sealant, followed by a coat of polyurethane. Polyurethane finishes are much more resistant to moisture and spills and moderate heat than traditional varnishes, and do not need much protection.

Polish not more than 3-4 times a year unless it gets heavy use, with a polish recommended for the kind of finish. Too much polish may build up a cloudy film; wipe off polish before it dries completely. Do not mix types of polish. Oil causes wax to become gummy. Clean the furniture surface thoroughly before changing furniture care products.

Guide to Dorsey Originals Finishes
We use a polyurethane finish that is liquid plastic resins that dry to a durable satin or gloss finish and does not require extensive maintenance, just regular care (see below).

Dust regularly with a soft dry cloth. When needed wipe with a moist cloth, not wet, and wipe dry. This will remove fingerprints and light soil. Occasional polishing with a high quality, non-silicone furniture polish will enhance the beauty of the fine Dorsey Originals finish. Avoid using oily polishes or waxes.

Over time, scratches from normal use may be noticed on furniture. These can be touched up with a scratch remover or special touch-up pens or sticks available at your furniture dealer or at many paint stores.

Dorsey Originals prevention of problems
Fine wood furniture should not be exposed to extreme heat or humid conditions, such as placing it near a heat outlet or an open window. Try to avoid direct sunlight, which may cause certain finishes to fade. Every effort is made at Dorsey Originals to make the finish as fade-proof as possible.

Do not place plastic, rubber or hot objects directly on a wood finish. Pads, mats and coasters on furniture, under vases, glasses, cups etc. protect them from spills and stains, and from heated objects.

Chemicals in plastic and some rubber may soften or discolor the finish if left in contact with the furniture for a long period of time. To avoid these markings, place a strip of felt, leather or cork under accessories. Spilled liquids should be wiped from the surface immediately with a soft, slightly damp cloth, in the direction of the wood grain.

Dorsey Originals cleaning
Vacuuming with a dusting brush attachment gently removes dust from furniture surfaces, preventing buildup. If no vacuum cleaner, remove household dust with a soft, clean cloth, dusting with the grain. The cloth may be dampened with a furniture dusting-aid product, or a furniture care polish may be used turning it often. If the finish is water resistant, a barely dampened towel or cloth will pick up dust.

Every six months or so, there may be a need or desire for more thorough cleaning of wood furniture than routine dusting. The furniture may be washed with a mild soap intended for that purpose. Use a soft cloth and wipe with the grain. A furniture polish may be applied if a little more shine is desired. Avoid products that leave an oily film on the furniture since they may cause a clouding of the finish and have a tendency to collect dust. Follow the manufacturer’s directions on any product.
