Customized Tables

Dorsey Originals creates both collections of limited editions and custom designed built tables.

Why custom made?
A custom handmade Dorsey Original has your distinct countenance. We will work with you to choose wood that has the desired grain and accents. We hand select all of our wood and veneer piece by piece. You will work directly with the craftsman to design and create custom solutions for your Dorsey Original that will be for home, office, or for special occasions and/or people.

The process begins with a contact from you, providing us with information (see below) and requesting an initial visit or interaction with us. You give us your ideas, likes and dislikes, in wood, color, and so on. We will then give you our ideas and advice on wood, color, and so on. We will then produce a draft free hand sketch and written description. This may include an estimate of time and cost, at this time. We will then arrange an interaction with you to confirm our concept and estimate or take your suggestions to modify the design concept. When we agree on the drawn and written design concept, we will sign an agreement and collect a 50% down payment.

At this point Dorsey’s will locate and purchase materials and start on your project. Our time line is based on current work in production plus the time to build your piece. Typically that may take 4 – 8 weeks.

The first stage of production begins with a sample preparation. When the samples receive your signed approval, we can begin the construction process. When the table pieces have been fabricated and before assembly, we will show you the pieces and ask you to give your approval in writing. After that approval, the piece will be assembled, as you will receive it, and we will show you the piece and ask you to give your final approval, prior to the finishing of the piece. If a visit is not practical, we can update you by e-mailing digital photos.

The finishing process sometimes involves as much work as the entire process to this point. The time we take and the finish that we create, allows the real beauty of the wood to show through. When the piece is completed, you are asked to view it prior to delivery. Final payment is due at this time.

Custom design fee: Where sketches, drawings or models are required there is an initial design fee of $250. For multiple designs or more complex work this fee may be higher. All design fees are incorporated into the cost of the final job.
